The first thing you should ask yourself is how much money are you willing to spend to make your home look better and to keep your fish comfortable? You see the problem with going big is you will need more money for construction and maintenance.
The truth is there is no limit to what you can do with aquariums all that is required is a little creativity. For example, have you heard of the earth’s smallest aquarium?
If you haven’t you should know that it measures 30mm wide, by 24mm high and 14mm deep. That simply means that it fits in the palm of your hands, keeping that in your home is not impressive for obvious reasons such as it might get lost, and you will only be able to fit very tiny fish in there.
That’s why I recommend that if you are on a budget, you should consider buying a 20-gallon aquarium, why? There will be more room for your fish, and less maintenance is required.
When picking a theme for your aquarium it is very important to make sure that it doesn’t conflict with your home’s theme, therefore simply find something that “fits in” perfectly.
One option is to make your aquarium part of your furniture, your aquarium can be used as a coffee or dining table. This is a good option because instead of it being something that’s placed somewhere in the corner it becomes something that’s always in your line of site.
This will make it a good conversation piece and something to look at when bored. It will also make your home unique.
If you like to add a little twist to your office you can get an aquarium office table, apart from making your home look like a super villain’s lair, it also looks pretty cool especially if you get the lighting right.
You know your favorite colors, therefore, pick colors that you find appealing–the colors you pick will either make your aquarium stand out or keep it in the shadows. This means that you have to pick very carefully, most people prefer to pick natural colors, and others prefer wild colors. Wild colors are colors that standout e.g. red, blue, yellow, etc.
The choice is totally up to you, you decide what colors the plants, gravel and decorations will be. When you pick fish you should pick ones that contrast with the colors in the aquarium; you can also decide to keep things neat by picking a black and white theme for your aquarium.
Simply look at your home and find colors or themes that will make your aquarium stand out.
When it comes to plants, you can either go fake or real, if you pick real plants you will have to make sure that the plant gets enough light and heat. The PH levels should also be right. Fake plants, on the other hand, offer you more freedom; you can play around with different colors and place your aquarium anywhere you want.
Another unique idea is to place your aquarium below you or above you (on the floors or the ceiling) you can also use an aquarium as a room divider depending on the size of your home or the room you are working with.
